Mark Your Calendar

Here are seven reasons why you should attend church with your family on Christmas Day.

1. The Genealogy of Jesus was complete.
2. Mary believed the angel Gabriel.
3. Joseph obeyed the dream.
4. It was tax time in Bethlehem.
5. Herald angels appeared to shepherds.
6. Wise men from the East followed a Star.
7. Ancient prophecy was fulfilled.

Now, if God sovereignly arranged for all these things to be in place for the birth of Jesus on earth, imagine what he could do in your family on Christmas Morning. Bring God Into the Moment. Make a faith statement to your children today. Tell them why you are Marking Your Calendar—December 25th: Attend worship as a family.

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14).

Save the date for a date with the Savior!

A Go To God

Who or what is your Go To? Is it a cup of coffee or a call to a friend…a chocolate bar or a shopping spree? Where do you find comfort or solace in the midst of the intensity of daily living. Where do you unwind? Where do you seek refreshment and courage for your next step?

As you ponder these Go To questions consider this: God wants to be your Go To. Every aspect of God’s character; every letter of His Word; every longing of His heart bids you to rush to His side. Listen anew to Jesus’ words… Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light  (Matthew 11:28-30).  Sounds to me like a cup of God is all we need!

Near the end of Jesus’ life on earth. Jesus expressed regret to the very people He came to save: O Jerusalem, Jerusalem…how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing (Matthew 23:37). Make God your Go To today. Do so for the sake of your eternal future and your present well being. Jesus longs to gather you and your beloved to Himself. Be gathered, dear one. No regrets here!

The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing (Zephaniah 3:17)

OPP (opportunity for action): Our culture is gathering our children through social media. Give them an alternative source of acceptance. Be diligent in making sure that God’s Friend Request is all they need.      #Jeremiah 33:3 Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. Be a God is a Go To voice in your home.

Single WIth Children

Needle and threadAre you Single with Children? Do you know someone who is? As we continue to fashion Growing Robes for our sons and daughters, it is imperative to instill in them the tenets of the Biblical family. It is God’s desire that children be raised in an optimum faith environment. More than ever before, we as members of the faith community are being called to order our lives in such a way as to widowafford all children every good thing they need for faith in God. Single with Children is not just a societal classification. It is an open invitation for God’s grace and support extended by His people, the Church.

As of 2014 (Census Bureau), 12 million families in the United States are headed by a single parent and 83% of that total are single mothers. Think about the number of families in your circle of influence that need you to invest in their daily lives. You may be an answer to a single mom’s prayer for someone to assist her efforts to raise her children in godly discipline.

Years ago our son showed great sensitivity to a young classmate whose parents recently divorced. By God’s grace and our son’s prompting we connected with the mother and her three children. In the ensuing years God afforded us many opportunities to lend support and show the love of Jesus to this fractured, but precious family. My son’s young friend went on to be Youth Pastor. For certain, he learned insights within his own family experience that would serve him well in his chosen ministry profession. Our family has been blessed to share the joy of seeing God at work in our midst. In Gods economy, efforts to come along side of single moms (or dads) is never wasted.

In my life of ministry to women and families, God has given me a picture of another type of single mom. She is the mother whose husband and father of her children does not profess faith in Jesus. He may be willing to allow her to raise their children in the way of faith, but he is unwilling to participate in their faith experience. In this situation the children are exempt from the model of a faith dad. In addition, their faith burden for their father grows as their own relationship with God grows. Each of us can be a ray of hope in such families.

The Bible reveals God’s heart for another category of single mom—those who are widowed among us. James describes true religion as looking after orphans and widows in their distress…(James 1:27).I urge you to take this mandate seriously. A women who is Single with Children because of the loss of a husband to death is especially vulnerable in our society.

Just when I thought I was ending my single mom list, another type of Single with Children has come to mind. Think for a moment for the growing number of mothers and children whose lives include a husband and father in prison. No family needs our faith support more than those in which the children know their fathers only behind steel bars.

Fret not, people of faith. There is no statistic known to man by which God is bound! Let’s get this one done in the Lord! Begin by asking God to intersect your path with a Single with Children parent. Be ready to be amazed at how He responds to your burden for those in need of a Growing Robe of faith.

If you are Single with Children please know that God loves you and values your family. Earnestly pray for God’s intervention in your life. Be ready to be amazed at how He responds to your deep desire to do what is right and best for your children. Post a comment on The Growing Robe blog or contact me at so that I can cover you with God’s faith and love.

May the Lord lead your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance. 2 Thessalonians 3:5

OPP (opportunity for action): The best way to connect with single parent families is through your children. Raise their awareness of those in school or church that do not have the advantage of a complete family unit. Nurture your own child’s sensitivity to the needs of his classmates. Always remember that service to others in the Lord is never in vain. God will use it to build the faith of your own children in the process. Blessed Sowing!

Don’t Look Now…

Don’t look now, but your car is being towed!

Don’t look now, but God is on the move. He will not be stopped by parking barricades or security perimeters. He will not mind the plans of officials and well-meaning leaders. He will not be thwarted by failed religious practices, false shepherds or criminal acts against children. He will not be deterred by feeble efforts of the masses to deny Him or turn from Him. God is on the move in the humble heart of His servant.

Don’t look now, but God is shining His light on the Family. Eighteen thousand pilgrims have journeyed to the City of Brotherly Love to seek His favor on their own beloved. There is no dusk in God. His light will not be dimmed by falsehood, philosophies, crime or terror. Nor will it flicker in light of social trends or those who would undermine the heritage of faith that has prevailed in God’s people since the days of Father Abraham. God is shining His light on this generation and those that follow for the purpose of blessing the world through the family of God.

Don’t look now, but God is feeding the poor. He is exalting the humble. He is breaking down the strongholds of greed and materialism that deny daily bread to the hungry and disadvantaged. He is stirring the hearts of His faith community to deny themselves for the sake of their near neighbors. He is calling for us to radically extend God’s grace to others. God is dispensing His compassion and provision to the poor, the homeless, the frail and the weak.

Don’t look now, but God is appealing to the seat of our government. He is in the midst of our elected officials and circulating among our leaders. He is invading our airspace and our airwaves. He is challenging our logic, our laws, and our lack of integrity. He is exposing the plight of untruthful representation of our people. He is revealing personal agendas and ungodly practices. God is beckoning us to rule in the fear of God for the good of the people.

Don’t look now, but God is calling His Church to unity. He is sending us into the world with a message of love of God and love of others. He is consecrating us as ambassadors and peacemakers to impart His justice and His loving-kindness to all we meet. He is demanding our attention to the persecuted and the powerless. God is calling us to Oneness in His Name.

Don’t look now, but the Bible says that Jesus is coming again! And He won’t break through the clouds on Air Alitalia. He will come with His own heavenly beings and his own fanfare of trumpets and clashes of cymbals. There will be no formal announcement of His arrival or a set number of days of preparation. Yes, Jesus is coming again and there will a worship service as the world has never known.

Don’t look now, but God has sent His servant Francis to our shores. Welcome to America, Jorge Mario Bergoglio. May the Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. Numbers 6:27

He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8
