When I see a school bus I picture in my mind an egg crate. They both provide transport for fragile cargo. I do not just refer to the children’s safe travel to school. In truth, the dangers in school put our children at greater risk than the ride to school.
A pediatrician once advised me to keep my children at home in the pre-school years. His caution highlighted the need to strengthen our little ones in our own ideologies, beliefs. and family expectations before sending them into the mix. Today we would call this doctor “old-school”! Although my children did attend pre-school, I have never forgotten the wisdom of Dr. Barr’s admonition to secure the heart and mind of my child.
Decades later, I find myself with a passion for securing the conscience of the next generation for faith in God. I encourage young moms to cultivate and nurture faith in their homes. Expose your next generation to the ways of the Lord. Beyond all else, be passionate about imparting the knowledge of God’s love for each of your children. You can be sure that they will need this assurance on the first step out of the school bus door!
Fall is School Bus season. Pray for the children at the bus stops in your community that they be rooted and built up in the faith as (they) were taught and overflowing with thankfulness. Colossians 2:17
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7
A School Bus Prayer
Dear God, would you guard the heart and mind of my children in Christ today? Deliver them safely to and from their school. May they be met with your favor through teachers that honor and respect them. Surround them with peers that will encourage them and be a positive influence on their character. I pray a hedge of protection around them physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Lord, would you shield their eyes and ears from anything that would lead them into harm’s way or away from faith in You? And one more thing, Lord, may they be an instrument of your peace and hope in their own generation. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN
OPP (opportunity for action) Pray this prayer for the classmates and friends of your children. Invite them into your home. Be available for car pooling and chaperoning if you are able. Look for ways to encourage those whom God places around your family. Let’s cover the school bus stops across our nation with a plea to God on behalf of the hearts and minds of our children. Pray for the walkers too!
Moms In Prayer is dedicated to praying for school children across the America. See if there is a group near you. If not, start one—for the sake of the children within the boundaries of your own faith influence. http://www.momsinprayer.org
