I Know that I Know

imageMy morning time in God’s Word always begins with the daily entry from Encounter With God (Scripture Union). Over the years God has established a “time to speak to DeeDee” routine that takes me forward in my walk with Him. I have come to anticipate God’s voice in the early morning. My daily reading is followed by my reply to God in the lines of my journal.

In today’s scripture, Matthew 16:13-20, Jesus “popped the question” to the disciples. But what about you? Who do you say that I am (v. 15)? By God’s revelation Simon answered correctly: You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Ding! Ding! Ding! What do we have for the winner? In this case, it was a new name. Simon will go into eternity as Peter which means rock. Peter knew that he knew that Jesus is the Christ. The rest is history—Church History!

My journal entry: “God’s Church is built on a solid foundation and will continue into eternity. Neither failure, evil, nor denial will overcome it, overshadow it, or override it. I know the mystery of it all even though the knowledge of such is too lofty for my mind. I hold the keys to the Kingdom even though I am unworthy in my own right to do so. The authority of Christ has been endowed upon me for the purpose of making disciples. Jesus told the disciples to be silent about the revelation that “Jesus is the Christ”. He has told me to shout it from the heights. Lord, empower my voice to do just that!”

If you have read between the lines you have discerned that I know that I know. Knowing that you know that Jesus is the Christ is the privilege and liability of life. The revelation of this mystery brings a swell of gratitude for God’s grace and an undeniable mandate to do as Jesus did in every hour of His time on earth—make and sustain disciples for Jesus Christ.

Now, I am the one that is “popping the question”. Do you know that you know that Jesus is the Christ? Is your heart nodding a “yes” to that question? If so, make it your passion in life to make and sustain disciples of Jesus the Christ. You already know that it is my passion to cultivate the conscience of the next generation for faith in God. By God’s enablement, “Let’s get this one done!”

Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you even to the very end of the age’.                Matthew 28:18-20

OPP (opportunity for action): Take your parenting skills to new heights. Teach your children to be disciples of Jesus Christ and every other parenting goal will fall into place. In order for faith in God to linger on earth our children must know that they know that they know that they know…. But what about you?
