An Invitation

DeeDee (Left) and cousin Elaine at church picnic. Summer-1953.

My Aunt Dot and Uncle Clair were pillars of faith in my life. I know that they prayed for me to know Jesus from the day I was born. Every Christmas gift I opened that was sent from them was an inspiration to faith. I vividly recall reading the Egermeier’s Bible Story Book that I received when I was eight years old. As a young teenager, I treasured the familiar picture of Jesus standing at the door and knocking that graced the wall over my bed. My early summer memories are laced with church picnics and Vacation Bible School with my cousins. At this time in my life, I realize that my aunt, uncle and cousins were God-sent invitations to a faith relationship with Himself.

Psalm 145:3-4 and following calls each of us to be a faith mentor to those God has placed in our life. Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. One generation will commend your works to another; they will tell of your mighty acts… . I encourage you to be as a faith invitation, waiting to be opened by the next generation. In long-standing love and incremental faith reminders, purpose to cultivate faith in our children.

My passion is to secure the conscience of the next generation for faith in God. I invite you into that passion. Join in! It will take more than a village. It will take a kingdom enabled and empowered by God’s grace. You may not see yourself as a pillar of faith, but God sees you as a pathway to faith. There is a child in your family, your neighborhood, your church or your community that has a heart for God. Do not forsake inviting them into a faith relationship with their Heavenly Father. You are an faith invitation engraved and sealed by the Almighty. Now is the time for your delivery!

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.  Revelation 3:20

OPP (opportunity for action)  Ask God to open your eyes to a child to inspire toward faith.  In some seemingly small way open the door of faith for our next generation.  If you will not, who will?

If you are so led, please pray that Faith Feedings…12 principles to nourish your child’s spiritual development  (deedee cass) would be an inspiring and effective invitation to faith for many. Please know that I am praying for a mighty faith harvest in your circle of influence as well.

  1. I love the title An Invitation and the photo. It got me thinking of when I was a little girl and who was instrumental in developing my faith. Attending Catholic school was very good in strengthening our desire to be better and seek God. Prayer every day taught us what to do when struggles appeared. But one of my most precious memories is a snow covered Christmas Eve, Dad and I after shoveling the driveway, walked to midnight Mass. The church was peaceful and you felt HIS presence. Mom was waiting for us when we got home with my brother. Recently, I took my grandson to Mass with me and he followed the Gospel, readings, responses and I know God was smiling because I know I was smiling. Every day it becomes more imperative to teach the next generation.

Looking forward to your book DeeDee and we need more women like you in this world.

    1. Thanks for sharing your early story of faith, Rae. Such faith encouragement is vital for our children…especially from Grandmothers! Faith Feedings is now released. I pray that it cultivates faith our families.

      1. Thank you DeeDee! I didn’t come to faith in God till I was 18 and then off to a distant college and the world without any church or nurturing. I am so glad that my daughter started young with CBS and has continued to grow in Our Lord. It is so difficult in this world today as I work with middle school children in a public school and saw liberal college influenc my own son. Children learn more before age 6 than any other timea and thanks for giving them a strong foundation. I also use the basics of your ‘Scripture Ccde’ when I have time and want to commit a verse to memory..

  2. Patti, I cannot express how encouraging your words were to me as I read them before my sleep last night. They fortified me for morning light and my passion to cultivate faith in the next generation. I thank the Lord for the faith of your precious daughter. You have modeled faith motherhood and God has honored you in it. May your legacy of faith live on in your family. …c i t g o G. Acts 13:43
