I love stenciling. It is the closest I have ever come to fashioning something recognizable with paint–except for a wall! Years ago I decided to stencil a brick pattern on our front porch. When I evaluated the project, I realized that a cement porch with oft pooled water on it was a risky place for dabbed on art paint. Regardless, I stenciled away! I was delighted with the outcome. With sore knees and a pint of paint I fulfilled a creative dream. Most who knocked on our door thought they were standing on bricks–at least at first! Have you ever thought of the fact that you are God’s created work? You are recognizable to him from the heavens. And what is more, you will never fade away…even in the pooling of life’s rain. As the Master Stenciler he has dabbed you in His own likeness and for HIs own pleasure. He has sealed you with His Spirit (Ephesians 1:13). You are God’s prized creation. The Bible says that God saw all that He had made and said, ” …this is very good” (Genesis 1:31). To the extent that you believe for yourself these words of affirmation, you will be effective as one who nourishes your child’s faith.
With this in mind, I am going to do a little God stenciling. God’s Word is an infinite stencil file. Today, I have chosen three scriptures to dab into your heart and soul. I have my sponge, brushes, newspaper, paint and stencil in hand. Here we go!
- Jeremiah 31:3 I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving- kindness. Knowing that God loves you is the foundation of all faith. In the name of love for you he cleared the way for you to be in relationship with Him. Are you yet assured of God’s love?
- Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. You are not on this earth without meaning and purpose. Your life and how you live it matters to God. Overlay the fact that you are God’s workmanship on your day. Are you living out the work God prepared in advance for you to do?
- Psalm 139:14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; This is a hard one. Everything in our society and culture belies this Truth. Hide this verse in your heart. Speak it often. Do you believe that what God says is true?
Jesus’ words about the Word of God are recorded in Matthew 24:35: Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. I love God Stenciling! It is ever-lasting!
OPP: Begin stenciling God’s love, meaning and value into the hearts of your children. Ask God to guide your hands. Begin with these simple words: “I love you and I know that God loves you too.” Your child has a hunger for God. Speak God into him or her or them today. Stencil Away. You will be glad you did! Remember, with every dab you are creating a Growing Robe of faith for your beloved.
